Irene Schultz

Irene Schultz, age 94 formerly of Olivia passed away June 7, 2016 at The Comforts of Home in Hudson, Wisconsin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Saturday, June 11, 2016 at The Church of St. Rita, 8694 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be 10:30 am, Monday, June 20, 2016 at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Olivia. Memorials may be directed to St. Aloysius Catholic Church (302 South 10th St., Olivia, MN 56277) or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Irene Sena Schultz was born December 30, 1921 on the family farm place near Sacred Heart, Minnesota. She attended country school and as a young woman she moved to St. Paul to worked at St. Joseph's Hospital. She met W. Jay Schultz and the two of them were married March 1, 1943 in Clara City, Minnesota at St. Clara's Catholic Church. They lived in Wahpeton, North Dakota, Wadena, Minnesota and Minneapolis for several years before moving to Olivia in 1955. She was a member of the Altar Society of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and was active in serving luncheons at funerals.

She loved her gardens, playing cards, fishing, and spending many winters in Arizona and summers at their lake home. She also enjoyed traveling to various places including Hawaii, Alaska, Germany and many of United States.

Irene is survived by three children, Jay, Bob (Barb), Diane (Dave) Braun; grandchildren, Stephanie Kranitz, Kevin Schultz, Ken Schultz, Becky Nielsen, Chris Schultz, Jennifer Ho, Jason Vinar, and 19 great-grandchildren; brother Jim (Dee) Ashton, sister Margie Dalton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband W. Jay Schultz; parents James and Angeline Ashton; daughter-in-law, Barb Schultz; granddaughter Julie Schultz; siblings, Catherine Rhode, Freddie Ashton, Myron Ashton, LaVern Ashton, Blanche Ashton and Angie Baker.
