Howard A. Kittelson, 78 of Newport, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 21, 2017. Howard was born on February 9, 1939 to Arnold & Louise (Daniel) Kittelson in Clear Lake, Wisconsin where he lived until he enlisted in the US Marines and proudly served his country for four years. After his discharge he met Pat Einberger while out with some friends. They were united in marriage on January 21, 1967 at St. Mark's Church in St. Paul. They raised their three children in Newport and Howard was very active in the community coaching baseball and softball for 40+ years. Howard was a Teamster Local 120 member for over 25 years, a member at both the St. Paul Park American Legion and Cottage Grove VFW where he was a former Commander. He was very proud of his volunteer time at Fort Snelling National Cemetery for the past 11 years participating in the Funeral Honor Guard honoring his fallen comrades. Howard enjoyed country western music, hunting, gardening and many trips to the casino with Pat. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Pat; children, Craig (Stefanie), Kathy (Nick) McCloskey, Kelly (Tom) Rand; grandchildren, Andy (Randi), Ryan, Adam (Aly), Justin, Rachael (Nick), Austin, Abbey, Caiden, Wesley; great grandchildren, Hanna, Grant; siblings, Anne, Elva, Kenny, Irene, Jackie, Mike; numerous other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by brothers, Leonard and Richard.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM, Thursday, August 31 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (920 Holley Ave. St. Paul Park) Interment with Military Honors 12:45 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation for Howard will be from 4-7 Wednesday, August 30 at Kok Funeral Home (1201 Portland Ave. St. Paul Park) and one hour prior to mass at church. American Legion service at 6:30 PM Wednesday at funeral home.
