Gordon A. Shefland 48, of Sauk Centre, formerly of Cottage Grove, died Monday, March 31, 2008 after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at St. Luke?s Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove with the Reverend Tim Householder, officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Gordon A. Shefland was born August 2, 1959 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Raymond L. and June M. (Wulf) Shefland. He grew up in Inver Grove Heights and graduated from Simley High School. He enlisted and served in the United States Air Force for a short time, being honorable discharged on a disability due to an accident. He was united in marriage to Cathy Finsky in 1984 in Stillwater. The couple made their home in Woodbury and later Cottage Grove. Following a divorce in 2000, Gordon lived for a time in Hastings and in 2002 moved to Sauk Centre where he worked at Fleet Supply. He was a very kind and giving person. A gentle spirit, who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed music, drawing and painting and even wrote poetry.
Gordon is survived by his daughter, Jessica of Cottage Grove, son, Curtis of Norfolk, Virginia, step-children; Tina Williams of Brooklyn Park & Denise Hickerson of Inver Grove Heights, seven grandchildren, his mother, June Shefland of Sauk Centre, two brothers; Gene (Barb) Shefland of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Glenn of Sauk Centre, five sisters; Janet (Gary) Rein of Cottage Grove, Joyce (Karl) Braun of Motley, Minnesota, Julie (Dale) Gomer of Burtrum, Minnesota, Jane (Dewey) Hostetler of Melrose, Minnesota & Jackie (Jim) White of Farmington.
Preceded by his father, Raymond and son, Joseph Raymond.
