Gerold Jorgenson

Gerold D. Jorgenson, 80 of Cottage Grove, formerly of River Falls, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Lutheran Home in River falls following a lengthy illness.




Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Kok Funeral Home in Cottage Grove, with the Reverend Jules Erickson, officiating. Burial will be in Cottage Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.




Gerold D. Jorgenson was born November 11, 1928 in New Richmond, Wisconsin, the son of Orville and Edith (Gilstad) Jorgenson. He grew up in River Falls and graduated from River falls High School, lettering in all sports and setting the state record in Wisconsin for most yards per carry in football. He was united in marriage to Ruth Karnes on November 18, 1961 in River Falls. The couple made their home in Cottage Grove, Minnesota and he worked as a machinist for 3M Company, retiring in 1989. In 2006, he moved to the Christian Community Center in Hudson & recently moved to the Lutheran Home in River Falls. Gerold loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed sports and traveling.




Gerold is survived by his sons; Gary (Denise) Karnes of Woodbury, Greg (Becky) Karnes of Afton, his daughter, Sheila (Jeff) Billstein of Woodbury, six grandchildren; Bonnie, Kevin, Ben, Joe, Laura & Brad, six great-grandchildren; Hailey, Gavin, Mya, Jacob, Eric & Colton, also by his niece, Marcy.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and brother, Richard.
