Gerald Vierling

Gerald Vierling, age 81 of Cottage Grove, passed away July 5, 2017.

Memorial mass will be 11 am, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at The Church of St. Rita, 8694 - 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.

Gerald Charles Vierling was born April 1, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Flory and Vera (Belair) Vierling. He attended St. Luke’s for grade school and graduated from Central High School in 1955.

Gerald worked for Swift Company for a short time before entering active duty in the US Army where he served from 1959 to 1961. He met Barbara Sime and they were later married on October 6, 1962 at the Blessed Sacrament Church in St. Paul. They lived in St. Paul for a short time before moving to Cottage Grove in 1966. He worked at Control Data in the 1960’s and then 27 years at North Star Steel where he was employed until his retirement in 2001. His passions were spending time in the bowling alley or perfecting his golf game.

Gerald is survived by wife Barbara; sons Mark (Melanie) and Stephen; grandsons Gavin and Aaron; siblings, Patti, Earl, George, Gene, Jim (Mary) and Judy (Bill) Foerster. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Florian, Tom, Dick, Helen and Bill.
