George Schmidt

George W. Schmidt 81 of Cottage Grove went home to the Lord June 25, 2017. George was born February 28, 1936 to Jacob & Elvira (Williams) Schmidt in St. Paul, Minnesota. He grew up on the West side of St Paul and attended Humboldt High School. George enlisted in the US Army in 1955 and served his country during the Korean War. He worked in the plastics industry for 30 plus years working for Minnesota Plastics which eventually became Scheller Globe and for Amoco Plastics. George also worked for McGlynn Bakery for ten years and retired in 1999. He married Carol Hackert in Mesa, Arizona in 1982. George enjoyed spending time doing ceramics, crafting, models, puzzles, woodworking, traveling, and fishing. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Carol; sons, William, Paul; daughters, Elaine, Mary; stepsons, Timothy, Brian, and Dennis; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Eva, Mary, and Josephine; brother Tom; many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Jacob and Elvira; sister, Florence. Funeral service 10:30 am Friday, June 30 at Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church (6875 Jamaica Ave. S. Cottage Grove) with visitation starting at 9:30. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
