Frances Olson

Frances K. Olson, 80 of Cottage Grove, MN passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 1:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove, MN. Visitation will be held one hour before service. In honor of Fran's love of ice cream, an ice cream social will be held after the service at the church. A private interment will take place at the Newport Cemetery.
Fran was born on August 8, 1934 in La Crosse, WI to Bernard and Jennie (Koula) Schroer. After graduating from Central High School in La Crosse and attending one semester at UW – La Crosse, Fran decided to venture out and attend airline school in Kansas. In true Fran fashion, she made friends on the train to Kansas and ended up with a roommate before even arriving at school. After school, Fran relocated to Chicago, IL and became a Reservations Manager for Eastern Airlines.
Fran married the love of her life, Alden Olson, on August 17, 1957. Fran spent most of her life supporting her husband and family. She moved often in the her early married years living in Jasper, Ulen, Hitterdal, and Fairmont, MN before settling in Cottage Grove where she has resided for the last 46 years.
She was active in the Pineridge Garden Club, Women of Zion Circle, Welcome Wagon, Sons of Norway, Hastings Concert Association and many other organizations in the area. She also was co-owner of a floral business where she enjoyed designing flower arrangements for weddings and special events. Fran was always ready for any activity and she especially enjoyed lunching/chatting with friends.
Fran is survived by her children; Scott (Beth) Olson of St. Louis Park, MN and Darla (Brian) Schroeder of Cashton, WI, four very special grandchildren, Trent, Claire, Lexi and Grace, one brother, Ron (Jean) Schroer of Sammamish, WA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alden.
A special thank you to her many friends for helping her during the last years of her life. She appreciated each and every one of you.
