Eugene M. Couture, 81 formerly of Cottage Grove, died Friday, February 10, 2006 at the HealthEast Marian Care Center in Saint Paul following a lengthy illness.
Eugene was born August 25, 1924 in Saint Paul, the son of Mada and Lillian (Kellogg) Couture. He enlisted in the Marines and fought in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Harriet Smith on February 27, 1945. The couple had been married just short of sixty years. He had been employed as a clerk for the United States Post Office and also worked for many years at the Saint Paul Auditoreum. In his retirement he had assisted at the Park High School Ice Arena in Cottage Grove. He enjoyed traveling, camping, walked five to eight miles a day, was a wonderful provider, husband and father.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Harriet of Saint Paul, his daughter, Janice Doane of Olathe, Kansas, son, Dan Couture of Cottage Grove, grandchildren, Danielle Debois and Steven Doane, great-granddaughter, Alexis Doane, two sisters, Lorraine Wildenauer of White Bear and Marie Gagnon of Mesa, Arizona, three brothers; Bob and his wife, Karen Couture of West Saint Paul, Larry and his wife, Barb Couture of California and John Couture. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leigh.
