Age 88, formerly of Newport, passed away at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February, 15, 2008 at the Newport Lutheran Church, Newport, with the Reverend Dr. Mark Winkler, officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Elmira F. Gossman was born March 16, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer D. and Mabel (Wyberg) Smith. She was raised and educated in Saint Paul. Elmira was married to Harry Davis and later Raymond Gossman. The couple made their home in the Newport and Saint Paul Park area, where she was active at the Newport Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed baking, dancing and traveling. In later years, time with her family and grandchildren, as well as reading and music.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Gaylord) Strand of Cresco, Iowa, daughter-in-law, Leslie Davis of Hudson, WI, brother, Ken Smith of Stillwater, six grandchildren; Julie, Kellie, Wendie & Carrie, Lynn & Scott, 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, Harry Davis and beloved husband, Raymond Gossman, her son, Ken and granddaughter, Lorie.
