Edward ?Eddie? J. Rice , age 71, of Cottage Grove passed away
at his home on Tuesday evening, July 1, 2008.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday,
July 9, 2008, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Avenue, Saint Paul Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 until
8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street, Cottage Grove and one hour prior at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Edward John Rice was born November 2, 1936 in Saint Paul, Minnesota the son of Frank & Magdalene (Schwartz) Rice. He grew up in St. Paul?s east side and graduated from Harding High School in 1954. He was employed following high school at the Minnesota State Highway Department. On June 29, 1957 he was united in marriage to Jackie F. Peiffer. Eddie then worked as an accountant for Armours. The couple made their home in Cottage Grove and he became a police officer with the Cottage Grove Police Department where he was served until retiring in 1997. He worked over forty years at the Minnesota State Fair, most recently as a police officer until 2006. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, was a founding member of the Cottage Grove Athletic Association and the Cottage Grove Teen Center. He was a member of the Jaycees and was selected as Man of the Year. Eddie will be remembered as a huge Wild fan.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Jackie, his daughter, Julie of Cottage Grove, two sons; Pat of Cottage Grove & Michael (Shelly) Rice of Oakdale, six grandchildren; Brenna, Erik, Kaley, Emily, Elizabeth & Meghan, his brother, Richard of Maplewood and nephew, Kurt Rice of Arlington, Virginia.
