Earl Alfveby

Earl C. Alfveby, age 87 of Cottage Grove, formerly of St. Paul died Feb. 4, 2014 at Southview Acres in South St. Paul.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 -80th Street S., Cottage Grove.

Earl Carl Alfveby was born December 27, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Friedolph C. and Ruth F. (Peterson) Alfveby. He grew up in the St. Paul area and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1944. After graduation he entered the US Navy and served his country until his discharge two years later. While in high school he had been introduced to Marie Coawette and the two of them began corresponding during his time in the military. They were united in marriage on July 26, 1947 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in St. Paul. They purchased a home in St. Paul where they raised their family and Earl served as a member of the St. Paul Fire Department. After 29 years on the fire department they purchased a farm in Wisconsin where they spent many years until moving to Cottage Grove in 1998.

He was good all-around mechanic and carpenter who enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. Earl and Marie enjoyed their years at the farm where they hosted numerous 4th of July gatherings, family parties and fireman picnics. Earl loved to spending time with his family and going dancing with Marie.

Earl is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie; daughter Sandra Caminati; sons Steven and Jeff (Nancy) and many grand and great grandchildren; sister Jean (Larry) Garske nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Wendy; son Bruce; brothers, Donald and Lester.
