Duane Cozad

Duane E. Cozad, age 72 of Cottage Grove, passed away on December 27, 2015 at his home under hospice care.

Funeral will be 10 am, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S, Cottage Grove. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home and also for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at the Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights.

Duane Everett Cozad was born July 15, 1943 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Everett "Slim" and Mabel (Lewis) Cozad. He grew up in Council Bluffs and entered the US Navy at the age of 17. On December 30, 1962, Duane was united in marriage to Lorinda Bauman in Council Bluffs. He continued to serve in the US Navy over 20 years and was stationed in a variety of areas until his honorable discharge where he attained the rank of chief quartermaster. They moved to Minnesota in 1980 and resided in Cottage Grove. In 1982, he started working for the US Postal Service where he was employed for 24 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing and restoring old furniture. He was a member of the VFW in Cottage Grove and American Legion in St. Paul Park.

Duane is survived by his wife Lorinda; children, Susan (Jeff) Welch, Sheri Cozad, Steven (Lynn) Cozad; grandchildren, Duane, Misty, Robert (Angela); great-grandchildren, Rachel and Declan; sister, Linda (Roy "Bud") Bryen and brother Darwin Cozad. Preceded in death by his parents Everett and Mabel; sister Florence Roseau; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Shepard.
