Dorothy Larson, 87, of Hastings, formerly of St. Paul Park, passed away July 3, 2013 at Ruth Homes where she had lived since 2010.
She was born July 4, 1925 in Minneapolis and raised on Prairie Island. She married Albert Larson October 3, 1942 and resided in St. Paul Park since 1947.
Survived by daughter Judy (Karl) Kuester; grandsons, Kriss, and Todd; great-granddaughters, Haili, and Sophia; sister Mary Holst; sister-in-law Marcella Cook; and nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Albert of 68 years; sister Patricia Brunkhorst; brothers, Harry Jr., Earl, and Allie; and step-brothers, Ken Voshell, and Harvey Schlehr.
She belonged to Community United Church of Christ. She served on the City Council, City Planning Commission, and St. Paul Park Development Corporation where she served as president and vice president. Under her leadership the downtown area made many improvements in the late 1970's and early 1980's. She designed the St. Paul Park on the Mississippi logo for the water tower. She was on the committee to initiate the first recreation program in the city. She was on the South Communities Youth Counseling Bureau for 18 years. She was an election judge for the city and School District 833 for over 20 years each. She belonged to the Heritage Preservation Committee and East Metro Council. She worked in retail for many years. She enjoyed sewing, swimming, crafts, gardening, and politics.
Funeral service is Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at Community United Church of Christ, 1145 Summit Ave., St. Paul Park. Visitation on Friday, July 12, 2013, 4-7 PM at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Ave., St. Paul Park. Interment at Cottage Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Community United Church of Christ.
