Doris Sobaski

Doris E. Sobaski, age 93 of Cottage Grove, passed away June 11, 2015 at White Pines Assisted Living Community in Cottage Grove.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Church of St. Rita, Cottage Grove with visitation starting at 9 am. Interment will be in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, St. Paul Park.

Doris Elaine (Rickel) Sobaski was born December 5, 1921 in North St. Paul, Minnesota to Glenn and Louise (Gilman) Rickel. She grew up in South St. Paul and was married to Henry Berens on January 20, 1940 in the Cana Chapel at the Cathedral of St. Paul. They lived in St. Paul for a few years until they purchased a home in South St. Paul in 1942. Doris was employed at the Gillette Company as a quality control expert for many years. They moved to Cottage Grove in 1962 and became core members at the Church of St. Rita where they faithfully served. Doris enjoyed knitting, crafts, family gatherings and following the Minnesota Twins. Several years after Henry passed away, Doris met Alfred Sobaski and they were married in 1992 and enjoyed 20 years together.

She is preceded in death by her first husband 48 years, Henry Berens; second husband of 20 years, Alfred Sobaski and granddaughter Angela Spencer. Survived by son, Dwane (Darlene) Berens; daughters, Kathryn (Dale) Malm and Carolyn (Greg) Spencer; step-children, Jim, John and Linda Sobaski; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Lois Schroeder and Marion Baskerville; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
