Doris Hanson

Doris D. Hanson, 76 of Cottage Grove passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017 with her family at her side. Doris was born February 21, 1941 to Lawrence & Lorene (Denton) Vance in Dupree, South Dakota. Her family moved to Mobridge, South Dakota at an early age and she worked part time on her family ranch. Doris graduated from Mobridge High School in 1959 and then attended computer training school in Des Moines, Iowa. After her training she started working for the South Dakota Highway Department where she met Burnell Hanson; they married on October 14, 1962 in Mobridge. Burnell’s job moved them to Seattle, Washington and then to St. Paul, Minnesota. They settled in Cottage Grove and raised their family. Doris worked for Green Tree Financial in mortgage processing and retired after 13 years of service. She enjoyed cooking, outdoor activities, especially hiking. Doris was involved at her church and loved visiting her grandchildren. She is survived by loving husband of 54 years, Burnell; son, Shannon (Christie); granddaughters, Faith and Arin; sister, Cheryl (Robert) Bieber; brother, Gary Vance; many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lorene Vance; sister, Elsie Vance; sister-in-law Nancy Kay Vance. Funeral service 11am, Saturday, July 22 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (615 Vermillion St. Hastings) with a visitation starting at 10am. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Mobridge, South Dakota.
