Donna Hume

Woodbury

Donna Hume, awesome mom, spoiling grandma, loving sister, and loyal friend went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the age of 72.

Donna was born on January 24, 1950 in Lincoln, NE to first-time parents Rexal and Gertrude Albert.  She was the oldest sister to siblings Judith Sternhagen, Arlen (Karen) Albert, and Marcilee Albert.  In her childhood she developed a love for the Lord as well as many of the interests and hobbies that she would pursue and/or support for the remainder of her 72 years.  Her love of music, dance, crafts, dolls, imaginary play, and collecting various things were lovingly shared with each of her grandchildren.  Her love for cats and dogs also started in childhood and her house in Woodbury was a favorite stopping place for neighborhood dogs seeking a yummy treat.

After high school, Donna married and moved to Omaha.  In Omaha, she brought two (in her words, “pretty amazing”) sons into the world - Jonathan and Daniel. Her boys became her world and it is rumored that she spoiled them both.  Around this time she began working at the railroad, spawning a love of all things trains.  Her job had her working nights in the railyard and she wanted to be with her boys in the evening.  So, she courageously transferred to Minnesota in order to take an office job with the railroad.  It should be noted that she proudly exclaimed “Go Big Red” throughout her life, despite this move.

After moving to Minnesota, she married the love of her life, Bill, in 1982.  Unfortunately, he was taken far too soon in 1985.  Donna poured her energy and efforts into their home, making it a loving and fun gathering place for Jon and Dan’s friends.

Her next chapter brought with it a new name, Grandma D.  She wore that name proudly and loved each of her grandchildren - Treasure, Josiah, Rafael, Lucy, Sage, and Cole - more than words can describe.  She liked to spoil them with all varieties of books, toys, and sweets. She was also their proud cheerleader for dance, music, sports, and loved those events and, it seems, a trusted secret-keeper.

Upon retiring from the railroad, Donna immersed in her hobbies; consuming books, creating and gifting crafts, donating to shelters, and adding to her collections. She could be counted on for words of support and encouragement and, importantly, daily prayers for well-being.
