Donna Mae Hintz, age 79, of Cottage Grove, died peacefully on August 8, 2021, at her home in Cottage Grove.
She was born on October 14, 1941, in Bemidji to Richard and Edna (Koch) Secord. She is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hintz; her parents; and her sister, Roslyn (Secord) Peterson. She is survived by children, Lori and Steven. Donna and Curt were married on her 20th birthday in 1961 in St. Paul and moved to Cottage Grove in 1966. They became very active in church, first at All Saints Lutheran, then as charter members of St. Luke’s Lutheran in Cottage Grove. She was St. Luke’s first accompanist, directed choirs, men’s octet, and along with Curt, supported the music program and church in many other ways. But she was most passionate about teaching, from Sunday school kids to adult bible study. She taught a 2-yr study (Bethel) several times, and later led Christian Caring classes.
She loved being a mom, and her home was often the center of activity of the surrounding neighbors and kids. She and Curt enjoyed spending time at their cabin, taking trips on their plane around the country, and later traveling around in their coach camper, eventually spending winters in AZ.
Donna was a prayer warrior, teacher, Christian mentor, pianist, bridge player, cross-stitcher, best friend, mother, and wife. And she had a sense of humor that will keep many of us laughing for years to come.
