Donald Benning, age 83, of Cottage Grove of Cottage Grove died on Wednesday night August 10, 2005 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury following a brief struggle with leukemia..
Donald was born July 11, 1922 in Ackley, Iowa the son of John E. & Elizabeth (Schmidt) Benning. He graduated from Ackley High School. On September 23, 1964 he married Mary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. Don worked at Anderson Windows and Armour Meats until they closed and he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post 98. He loved his family. He enjoyed hard work, traveling, fishing, playing cards, gardening and visiting with friends and relatives..
