David Schurmeier, age 61 of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly on September 23, 2021.
David James Schurmeier was born November 5, 1959 in St. Paul to John and Joylyn (Heath) Schurmeier. He grew up in Cottage Grove and graduated from Park High School in 1978. David worked at the Ford Plant in St. Paul for a short time as well as Jack’s Union 76 in Cottage Grove. For many years he was self employed as an auto mechanic and never really considered it a job because he loved what he did. David was generous with giving his time to others and as a self taught handyman, there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. David was also an excellent cook and tried a variety of different recipes.
David is survived by his mother Joylyn; siblings Debra, John III, Steven (Ginny); nieces Cheryl (Eric), Erica; nephews Steve Jr. (Nichole), Richard (Robin) and Michael as well as extended family and lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his dad John “Bill” and sister Terry Anne.
Memorial service will be 7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S, Cottage Grove with visitation starting at 5:00 pm until the time of service. Private family burial is planned.
For everyone’s safety, the family requests that everyone wear a mask.
