David Richard DeBace, born in St. Paul, and a longtime resident of Cottage Grove, MN, died peacefully at home.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Betty; daughters, Michelle DeBace and Nicole (Daniel Rech) DeBace-Rech; son, Brian DeBace; sister-in-law, Jean Patten; brothers-in-law, Roger (Gail) Brian, David (Carmen) Brian, and Dale (Loretta) Brian; four siblings; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marjorie DeBace; granddaughter, Mirielle Maria; Betty's parents, Harold and Olga Brian; one sibling; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Patten.
Family, friends, and all things mechanical were very important to David. He loved making things work and restoring old to new. David loved his Harleys and spent many years riding across the country with friends. He had a passion for classic cars. Building airplane models was also a lifelong hobby. David gave 6 years of service in the Air National Guard and had a long and successful career in Aviation starting with North Central Airlines, where he met Betty. After retiring, David was actively involved in many groups and activities such as Vice President of RARE (Republic Airlines Retired Employees), an active member of Twin Cities Aerohistorians Model Club, and a volunteer at the Northwest Airlines History Center.
David was always there for his family and friends with an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on, or a hand (and screwdriver) to help. He was an integral part of his family and the communities he cherished. His love, wisdom, and humor will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday, October 23 from 1-4 PM at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street South, Cottage Grove.
