Darlene “Dars” Elizabeth Hofmann, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017 in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 am Friday, January 5 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (920 Holley Ave. St. Paul Park) with visitation Thursday at Kok Funeral Home (1201 Portland Ave. St. Paul Park) from 5-8 and one hour to Mass at church Friday with a Rosary starting at 9:30.
Dars, or Darzie as she was known by her family and friends, was born August 2, 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the third child of Harvey and Olive (Taylor) Dunbar.
A graduate of Saint James Catholic School and Monroe High School in Saint Paul’s West 7th neighborhood, Darlene enjoyed life in abundance. Family, friends, and her Catholic faith were the foundation of her life. She devoted many hours in volunteering and lived out her faith giving her time to anyone who needed it. She was very supportive of her children and grandchildren’s dreams and pursuits and could always be found at their plays, their games, their concerts, confirmations, and graduations.
She loved to sing and for many years, she sang in multiple choirs, including the choir of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Saint Paul Park, Minn., where she was also a Eucharistic Minister. She was a faithful participant in a bible study group that had met together for many years.
Left to mourn are her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert, her eight children: Rob (Kathleen McQuillan-Hofmann), Lori (David Urke), Dan, Paul, Tom, John (Naomi Hoffer), Peter (Sue Maxa), and Tim (Lisa Finley-Hofmann); and grandchildren: Kirsten (Steve Klosinski), Brendan, Nathaniel, Davy, Rob, Liam, Audrey, Simon, Clara, Cody, Savannah, Ava, Tatum, and great grandson Nolan. She is also survived by her brother Ron (Judy), her sister Kathleen, brother-in-law Rich Norton, sisters-in-law Bev Dunbar, Jeannine Dunbar, Clara Baggestoss, and Mary Ann St. Arnault, former daughter-in-law Mallory Wingrove, and many dear friends including Robin and Jean.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Daniel, James, and Andrew; and sister Elaine.
