Daniel “Dan” Mark Stewart was born January 3, 1965 in St. Paul, Minnesota to William and Shirley (Johnsen) Stewart. He grew up in Little Canada and while still in high school, he took a position as a delivery person for St. Paul Structural Steel and was commissioned to deliver plans to various places on his bike. He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1983 and started learning the trade of carpentry while working for Dan Szmiot. The following spring Dan met the love of his life, Kristen Halvorson and they were married on February 28, 1987. Dan continued as a carpenter for Northside Construction and Berg Construction until he and Kristen opened a Jimmy’s Pizza in Prescott, Wisconsin, which they faithfully operated until 2002. Up until the time when he began his journey with cancer, he served as an on-site carpenter for Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis.
Dan was very athletic and played many sports as a kid even into adulthood. He played football, baseball, soccer and hockey. He also played softball and hockey on church leagues. Dan was an avid fisherman who loved to keep busy with “fix-it” projects around the house. He was an excellent carpenter and found satisfaction in using that skill to build their home in Cottage Grove and then in Prescott, WI. His family was his number one focus and will be dearly missed by everyone that knew him.
Dan is survived his wife, Kristen; daughter, Jessica; son, Joshua; brother, Stephen (Judy); sisters, Cheryl (Dan) Kind and Karen (Jim) Hill; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Shirley; and brother, David.
