Charlene Brose

Charlene Ann Brose, age 76 of Woodbury, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 9, 2016 at the Woodbury Care Center.

Funeral service will be 11 am, Friday, July 15, 2016 at Christ The Lord Lutheran Church, 9998 – 90th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation starting at 9 am until the time of service. Private interment will be held at a later date at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Woodbury. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Charlene was born March 5, 1940 in Two Harbors, Minnesota to LeRoy and Nanny (Carlson) Alstrom. She grew up in Two Harbors where she learned to play violin and later graduated from high school in 1958. Charlene met Robert James Martin and were married in 1960, making their home in Bloomington where they started their family. Robert died unexpectedly in 1970. Charlene started working for Hayden Murphy as an administrative assistant which she did for several years. In 1973, Charlene was married to Walton "Sonny" Brose and lived in Woodbury. She was co-owner of The Gift Hutch in the late 1970's to early 1980's which she enjoyed teaching painting classes and working with people.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, cooking, crocheting and knitting. Charlene also enjoyed her numerous trips to Sweden to visit family. Over the past several years, Charlene played violin as a member of the American Swedish Institute's Spelmanslag Folk Music Group.

Charlene was known as a patient, generous person who was willing to do anything for anyone. She loved to be the hostess and was dearly loved by her family.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Hohman, Debra (Michael) Swann, Bradley (Catherine) Brose, Jeff (LisaAnn) Martin, Joy (fiancé Dan Sellner) Martin, Michael (Susan) Martin and Greg (Jennifer) Brose; grandchildren, India, Austin, Nicole, Lotti, Beau, Levi, Charisa (Ben), Jessica, Brianna, Roxanne, Tenaye, Terrell (Linda), Jacob and Joshua as well as many great-grandchildren; one sister Nancy Wells. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert and Walton; daughter Kay Brose; brother Fred Alstrom and her parents, LeRoy and Nanny.
