Carolyn Fournelle

Carolyn L. Fournelle, age 91 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 3, 2015 at White Pines Assisted Living in Cottage Grove.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Phoenix Residence-Douglas House; 1538 Point Douglas Rd. S., St. Paul, MN 55119.

Carolyn Louise Fournelle was born February 20, 1924 to Carrol and Velma (Cathcart) Combs in Eldon, Missouri where she graduated from high school in 1941. On July 3, 1948 she was married to Richard Fournelle at St. Louis Church in St. Paul and they made their home in St. Paul for a few years. They moved to the East Side of St. Paul in 1958, where they lived until moving to Cottage Grove in 1971. Through the years, Carolyn worked as a secretary at the Farm Credit Union in St. Paul. She was an active member of the Garden Club and she enjoyed fishing on White Bear Lake and Lake Ada. She and Richard enjoyed traveling and for over 20 years they spent the winter months in Arizona. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts and was fascinated with watching birds. Carolyn was an active member of the Newport Methodist Church

Carolyn is survived by her sons, Michael, Steven (Kathy), David (Jolene); daughter, Lisa (Scott) Smestad; eight grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is preceded by her husband Richard; parents, Carrol and Velma Combs; sister, Gloria and daughter-in-law, Becky.
