Carol J. Schlorhaufer, age 80, of Newport, MN, passed peacefully under the care of her family on March 6, 2014 and went home to be greeted by her Heavenly Father, beloved husband John "Jack" and family.
Funeral services will be 11:30 Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Newport Lutheran Church, 900 15th Street, Newport with visitation starting at 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in St. Paul.
Carol Jeanette (nee Ellman) Schlorhaufer was born May 16, 1933 in Oconto, WI to Otto and Freida (Zeimer) Ellman and graduated from nearby Lena High School. She moved to Milwaukee, WI, where she was employed as a telephone operator. She met John Schlorhaufer and they were united in marriage on July 24, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oconto, WI. They moved to the east side of St. Paul where they started raising their family. In the fall of 1958 they moved to old Cottage Grove where Carol was involved in the Cottage Grove United Church of Christ for many years including serving as a youth fellowship leader. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, playing cards, going on road trips with Jack and gardening. She was an excellent cook who loved to spend her time in her "domain" (kitchen). In 1968 they built a home and moved to Newport. Carol loved spending time with her family and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also known as a woman of great faith. Her beloved husband, Jack, passed away in 2003.
She is survived by her children, Diane Howe, Cynthia Kelly, Carol Pirozok, Lisa Prigge, John (Kathi) Schlorhaufer; grandchildren, Ken, Jacquelyn, Robert, Jenna, Kaitlin, Brenna, Austin and Chase; great-grandchildren; Jack, Paxton, Shelby, Baby girl Hellquist and Baby boy Kelly (both expected in April); sisters, Dorothy Schlosser, Verna Olson, Marian Nerenhausen and Betty (Clarence) Spice; brother-in-law Henry Kolashinski; sister-in-law Louise Ellman and many nieces and nephews. Preceded by husband Jack, Parents, Otto and Freida; siblings, Laura Whiting, Willard Ellman, Erma Hicks, Margaret Borkovec, Harvey and Milton Ellman.
