Burton "Burt" H. Nieman 89, one of the last few old timers of Old Cottage Grove passed away June 24, 2017 surrounded by loving family. Burton was born July 15, 1927 to Harry & Lydia (Lambrect) Nieman in Woodbury, Minnesota. He grew up on his family farm and at the age of 18 he was drafted and served his county in the US Army spending a couple of years stationed in Germany. Upon his return he met Doris Kirchner at a dance hall in Inver Grove Heights. They married on May 26, 1951 at Lone Oak Lutheran Church in Eagan, Minnesota. Burt worked for 3M as an operator for 32 years, and enjoyed the past 30 years retired. He was a proud Ford driver and especially loved is 1999 Ford truck. Burt like to spent time fishing, having coffee at the Boondocks, watching Andy Griffith, mowing his lawn, camping, and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris; sons, Ken (Kristi), Steve (Sandy); grandchildren, Nikki (Josh) Ritter, Randy, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Easton, Kayleigh Ritter; sister-in-law, Joyce; other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents; siblings, Geraldine Fox, Earl; granddaughter Lynsay. Funeral service 4:30 pm, Friday, June 30 at Cottage Grove United Church of Christ (7008 Lamar Ave S.) with visitation starting at 2:30. Interment Cottage Grove Cemetery.
