Betty Claus

Betty E. Claus, age 84 of Oakdale, passed away April 1, 2015 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.

Memorial service will be 12 noon Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Private interment Ft. Snelling.

Betty Edna (Schwoch) Claus was born January 9, 1931 in White Bear Lake, Minnesota to Gust and Edna Schwoch. She was the third of five children and started her education in a one room school house. After graduating from high school in 1949, she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she was employed as a clerk for a few years. Shortly after returning to Minnesota, she was introduced to William Claus and the two were later married on May 24, 1958. They made their home in St. Paul for a few years before moving to Oakdale in 1967. Betty enjoyed 20 years as a bus driver with St. Paul Suburban Bus Company.

Betty thoroughly enjoyed their camping and fishing trips to a variety of places including Fish Trap, Chippewa Campgrounds and Oak Lake. Her hobbies included cross stitch, needle point, puzzles, crossword puzzles and making frequent stops a various casinos and Chinese restaurants. For many years, Betty and William spent their winter months in Florida and Texas, but deep down Betty's heart belonged in Minnesota. She was a devoted wife who cherished her children and those around her.

Betty is survived by her sons, Edward and Michael (and Carmel Sheridan) Claus; daughter, Susan Claus as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in by husband William E.; parents, Gust and Edna Schwoch, siblings, Charles, William, Donna and Carol.
