Barbara Joan Johnson passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday night May 11, 2024.
Barbara's funeral will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church with visitation starting at 1:00 pm until the time of service. A light lunch and fellowship will follow the service and conclude with a graveside service at Nidaros Cemetery. All are invited to dress casually as we celebrate this wonderful woman.
Barbara was born August 31, 1934, to Lloyd and Viola (Williams) West in Mankato, MN. She attended school in Battle Lake, MN and Bethel Lutheran College in St. Paul, MN.
Barbara met and married Ernie Johnson in 1960. They were married for 38 years and had three children: Brent, Shelly, and Joni. They made their home in Fergus Falls, MN until 2015 when Barbara moved to Cottage Grove, MN to be near her children.
Barbara worked at the Fergus Falls Library for many years. She enjoyed it immensely and was an avid reader her whole life. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was involved in many church activities.
Barbara loved her family and friends, travel, reading, flowers (she had over 100 pots and large flower gardens around the house), parties, eating out, and taking zillions of pictures. She enjoyed documenting traveling to all 50 states, Canada, Scotland, Wales, and England.
Barbara is survived by her children, Brent (Terri) Johnson of Henning, MN, Shelly (Don) Saunders of Cottage Grove, MN, and Joni (Robert) Hunt of New Hope, MN; six grandchildren Matthew, Jessie, Brandi, Taylor, Sam and Jack and two twin great grandchildren Remington and Zeppelin. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Ernie Johnson; father Lloyd Wald; mother Viola West and sister Gail Tysdal.
