Arthur Syring, Jr. 81 of Newport, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2009 at the Woodbury Health Care Center following a short illness.





Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Newport Cemetery, in Newport with the Reverend Dr. Mark Winkler, officiating. A reception will follow from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post #98, 328 Broadway Avenue in St. Paul Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The Kok Funeral Home of Cottage Grove is in charge of the arrangements.





Arthur Syring Jr., was born September 16, 1927 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Emma (Waldhauser) Syring Sr. He had been employed as a structural supervisor for American Hoist & Derek for many years. He had been a resident of Newport for the past 60 years. He served with the Pacific Fleet during WWII and was a member of VFW Post #8752 & American Legion Post #98. Art was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting & fishing.





Survived by his wife, Joan, daughters; Kathleen Ostrowski, Linda Knutson & Cynthia Flor, good friend & son-in-law, Randy Hall, 6 grandchildren; Troy, Chad, Matthew, Kristen (Ben), Michael, Amanda (Josh) & Adam, great-grandchildren; Jacob & Madalyn, also his faithful companion, Sam.





He was preceded in death by his brothers, Irvin & Robert and sisters, Lorraine & Marlene.
