Alvina Mary Kirchner 100 years young, passed away on November 13, 2017. Funeral service 11 am Saturday, November 18 at Newport Lutheran Church (900 15th St.) with visitation starting at 10 am. Interment Newport Cemetery. Alvina was born on August 16, 1917 to Peter in Mary Berens in Mahnomen where she grew up working on her family farm. At the age of 22 she moved to St. Paul and shortly after met Gilbert Kirchner while working at a diner in Inver Grove. They were united in marriage on October 22, 1941 in St. Paul where they lived for several years before settling in Newport. Alvina worked as a packager at Fritz Candy Company for many years while she raised her five children. She enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, cleaning and she made the best pickles. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
Alvina is preceded in death by husband, Gilbert; daughter, Jeanette Dawson; parents. Survived by daughters, Sharon (Richard) Strate, Linda (Dale) Frank; sons, David and Tom (Norma); 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandsons; son in law Richard Dawson; many other family and friends.
Memorials preferred to Newport Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota and North Dakota or donor’s choice.
