Alvin Goebel

Alvin "Al" Goebel, age 89, a long time resident of Cottage Grove, Minnesota passed away peacefully on January 13, 2012 surrounded by family at the Prelude of Woodbury in Woodbury.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Avenue, St. Paul Park with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be in the Cottage Grove Cemetery.

Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Survived by wife of 58 years, Marlys; daughters Claudia and Kara; son Jon and wife Jennifer; and grandchildren Bo, Bart, Cade, Braden and Brooke; sister Martha Lushanko and brother, Cliff. Preceded in death by parents John & Caroline, sister LaVina and brother John.

Alvin was a long-time resident of Cottage Grove, operating a crop and horse farm. He was instrumental in bringing Thoroughbred horse racing to MN and served as the MN Thoroughbred Association president multiple times. Alvin got his first exposure to horses growing up in North Dakota, often to the chagrin of his father. He continued to actively enjoy racing horses this past summer 2011, a very strong passion he shared with his family.

Alvin was a wonderful, kind, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will very deeply missed and remembered by all.
