Abel L. Alsides has peacefully passed away at the age of 78 years old surrounded by his loving family in his home in Newport, MN on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Abel is survived by his loving wife Deloris "Lola" Alsides of nearly 58 years, only daughter Felicia Jaime and son-in-law Luis L. Jaime, grandchildren Ariana Jaime (fiancé Kyle Lovin) and Luis Abel Jaime (Sophia Hepola) and loving grand doggies. He is also survived by brothers Teddy, Pete (Rhoda), Richard (Lisa), sisters Bonnie Casillas, Rosa Reyes and Mary (Reyes) Del Angel, and many loving in-laws and friends. He is preceded in death by his two infant sons, parents Pedro and Josefa and brothers Val and Angel.

Originally from O'Brien, Texas, Abel worked hard to fulfill the American Dream after working for Armour's & Company and the Metropolitan Council. He later built and operated his own business, Las Palmas Ballroom in Inver Grove Heights, MN. Abel also took great pride in his creation of building homes and creating a neighborhood in his hometown of Newport, MN.

Abel loved being around people and was the most peaceful, caring, and kind person anyone could have ever met. Abel enjoyed listening to his Mexican music, watching boxing, traveling, and going to church as well as the casino with his family every weekend. Abel will always be with us and will greatly be missed each day.

Visitation 4-8 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S., Cottage Grove, MN, 55016 and continues at 10 AM, Friday at church. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM, Friday, September 2, 2016 at Saint Ambrose of Woodbury Church, 4125 Woodbury Drive, Woodbury, MN, 55129. Interment to follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery, St. Paul Park, MN.
